EXPECTANCE SPEECH Stafford Osuri Osuri
Today I decide to be responsible for my life
Long have I let others do things for me
This day I decide to run slowly
I have been walking fast
Today I decide to pray
I have taken it for granted that I get up everyday, but only God wakes me up
This day I decide to strive for independence
I have been dependent on others far too long, ‘tis time to change this
Today I decide to say no
I have been a ‘yes’ far too long, to my disappointment. I embrace assertiveness.
This day I decide to dream
For we are such stuff as dreams are made of; Shakespeare rightly put it
Today I decide to think
I have thought ‘twas work to think. Out of imagination possibilities unlimited.
This day I decide to cook
Long have I been fed, it started at birth.
No, I’m a grown-up and breastfed babies need milk.
Today I decide to talk to people
Speaking has been my bedfellow far too long
This day I decide to listen
Hearing I won’t stop, only will I think of it
Today I decide to die
Ressurection only comes after death and alas! A new being I will be
Today I decide to read
Knowledge is power, this I now realise. ‘Tis great ‘tis never too late to learn
Today I decide to sell
I have bought enough and others should bbenefit of my stuff as well
This day I decide to help others if I can, not must
I was helped by others and so should I
Today I decide to climb down
‘Twas a lie they told me you can only climb up. In life there comes a time you’ve to climb down, you’re on the wrong tree
This day I decide to look back
For it’s not till then that I can see far ahead and focus
Today I decide to love my work
‘Tis many who endeavour daily on what they don’t like
This day I decide to cry
Many are the tears welling up my heart that are slowly killing me. I want to live.
Today I decide to strive to thrive
Many didn’t know they could do it till they tried
This day I decide to rest
‘Tis been a long run. Giving up is not an option, though.
